World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to an item are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it can boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.
The process of upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests Each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a certain amount.
Item Level
When an item is upgraded, its base stats increase in value. The value is the sum of all the upgraded benefits (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be costly, depending on who you hire and what you do. This is because of how many perks need to be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.

The level of an item is a commonly used measurement of power and can be found on all tooltips for items. It also serves as a gating requirement while waiting for dungeons, scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is restricted to the lower levels). Players can view their average item level in their character sheet.
The level of an item can help players compare the power of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's a useful indicator of an item's quality and the amount of damage it is capable of dealing with. The level of the item can be used to evaluate items when examining a vendor's inventory.
The level of the item can be checked by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the item's full description, including ilvl. It can also be located by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel in chat.
There are several theories about the method by which the level of an item is determined. One theory states that the level of an item is calculated using an equation that determines how valuable an item's stats actually are. It considers the fact that different perks have different values and that gems in sockets add to the item's overall value. This could result in an item's ilvl calculated, which is typically very close to Blizzard's real level of the item.
However, this isn't the only factor that can affect an item's ilvl since the level of the region the item was dropped in could alter the value of its stats, such as by adding a level to its crit rating or haste rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have higher ilvl than those from lower-level instances.
Item Stats
The stats of an item can make or break an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the best." The base stats on a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat modifications that are in turn increased by the player's skill.
The upgrades to items add by boosting certain stats on the item. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. A white or grey item for instance, will only be upgraded one time, while an item with rare tiers may be upgraded several times at more expensive costs.
Affixes can also be used to change an item's stats. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes are used to give items additional damage or special abilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs) or to differentiate them by putting a name on them.
At present, all affixes can be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by circling arrows. This will cost a certain amount in gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, as with other methods of rerolling.
In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can also choose which stats to be kept on an item after it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges for an item are determined by the level of the item, but all items are guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within the range, unless it is an exclusive item or a God roll from a boss in a raid.
Another thing that could be changed is the option to upgrade equipment without having to roll the attachments, or pick which stats to increase. However, as with the base equipment, this would need to be performed on a per-item level, and the item compare interface would not display all the possible stats either lost or gained at the same time.
Item Luck
A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the odds of item discoveries, the properties spawned on loot drops, and the intensity of those properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game. This is especially beneficial in early game runs because players tend to put the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.
Luck can also increase the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chances, which increase with each new level of item. They can also be enhanced by using anti-materials, such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, shields, and armor can be created or spawned using the Luck property, with a default value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to give +40 Luck, or to increase the Luck of an item, up to 140.
Certain items, like the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be crafted to increase the damage of any ability that causes damage by 5%. These items are available in the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items can be a costly process and not every upgrade will be successful. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to boost their chance of success or stop themselves from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.
When you upgrade an item the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special materials. The chance of success can only be increased as much, and the likelihood that an upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..
The success of an upgrades is also influenced by the Luck of that item. All items have a base success rate of 25%, and every item that has Luck increases the chance of success by five percent.
The upgrade overlays for items are rendered above items in the inventory. item upgrading may cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
